The Windsor and District Labour Council (WDLC) has announced its endorsements for the Oct. 27 municipal election with five candidates being endorsed in Amherstburg.

The five candidates in Amherstburg are the most endorsements the WDLC has made in any one Essex County municipality.

Aldo DiCarlo has received the labour council’s endorsement for mayor while Carolyn Davies has been endorsed for deputy mayor.

Ken Grant, Darryl McLean and Marc Renaud have been endorsed for councillor by the Windsor and District Labour Council.

The next highest total of endorsements for a county municipality was four, that being in Essex. WDLC is backing incumbent Ron McDermott for mayor with Steve Bjorkman (Ward 1), incumbent Randy Voakes (Ward 1) and Kim Verbeek (Ward 2) getting endorsed for councillor positions in that town’s election.

One candidate in each of LaSalle (Eugene Santini), Tecumseh (Mike Dunning) and Lakeshore (Leonard Janisse) were endorsed by WDLC with all three candidates seeking councillor positions.

Frank DiTomasso was endorsed for the Amherstburg/LaSalle trustee position with the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board.

There are eight candidates in Windsor endorsed by the WDLC, including John Millson for the city’s mayoral position.

According to their website, the Windsor and District Labour Council states “the candidates selected here in no way speak against ones not listed, but simply stated, share the values of the labour movement in Windsor/Essex and therefore are our recommendations as ratified by all affiliated unions representing over 27,000 members in the region.”
