The Amherstburg Admirals improved their record to 4-5 in Great Lakes Jr. C hockey action thanks to a pair of convincing wins over the weekend.

The Admirals routed the Wallaceburg Lakers 9-0 Sunday night at the United Communities Credit Union Complex behind a hat trick from Chad Copeland and one goal each from Zach Brown, James Brooks, Thomas Eady, Brett Beattie, team captain Kyle Morand and Cody Leeming.

The Admirals outshot the Lakers 36-24 on the night with Klinton Kenney picking up the shutout. Amherstburg chased Wallaceburg starter Joel Sowinski after 40 minutes with Sowinski allowing six goals on 25 shots. Wesley Hughson allowed three goals on 11 shots in relief for the Lakers.

Amherstburg was three-for-eight on the powerplay in Sunday night’s game.

The Admirals also gained some revenge on the Dresden Jr. Kings Friday night, as Amherstburg won 5-1 in Dresden. The Jr. Kings beat the Admirals 3-2 the previous Sunday night at the United Communities Credit Union Complex.

After Dresden’s Dillon Liberty scored on a first period powerplay, the Admirals took over. Eady scored on a powerplay before the first period was out with Ryan Jones scoring with the man-advantage in the second period. Curtis Prymack also scored in the second while Brooks and Brown picked up third period goals.

Chris Wallace picked up the win in goal in the Dresden game.

Amherstburg head coach/GM Greg Prymack hopes his team is putting together a nice winning streak.

“I thought our discipline was pretty good,” he said of Sunday’s game against Wallaceburg. “We’ve got some offence going. We played the last place team that hadn’t won a game but it’s definitely a positive. Chad Copeland had a hat trick which was nice to see.”
Prymack pointed out the Admirals have outscored their opponents 14-1 over the last two games.

The Admirals are attempting to claw back to the .500 mark and are looking to pick up some wins this weekend.

“Things are starting to click a bit,” said Prymack.

The Admirals are on the road to play Alvinston Friday night before having two home games Saturday and Sunday against Blenheim and Mooretown respectively. All games start at 7:30 p.m.
