Town ratifies new contract

After months of negotiations the town and its unionized workers have ratified a new four-year contact.

The deal includes an eight percent wage increase over four years, a $500 signing bonus for full time employees and a $250 bonus for seasonal workers.

Also there is post-retirement costs sharing arrangement for all new employees that establishes a cap on the town’s costs and provide the employees the opportunity to maintain key health care benefits into retirement.

The previous contract expired Dec. 21, 2010. The two sides have been negotiating since Jan. 19.

IBEW Local 636 represented 34 town employees.
