The town’s building departTown Logo Small-webment is on the move and other departments may soon follow.

The town moved the building department out of the basement of town hall and into existing office space at the Libro Centre. The actual move took place last week but the first official date where the building department called the Libro Centre home was Monday.

“We are making space at town hall to accommodate other employees,” said manager of special projects Karen Jacques.

Jacques said while it will be existing staff that will move into the building department’s former digs, it is yet to be determined which staff members that will be.

By putting the building department at the Libro Centre, it allows issues surrounding accessibility to be addressed, she added.

“With them being in the basement (of town hall), we had a little bit of an accessibility issue,” said Jacques. “This addresses the accessibility issue.”

The town stated in a press release that moving the building department into the Libro Centre is the “first phase in relocating economic and community development services” there.

“The long-term goal is to provide improved services to residents and stakeholders at a facility that can provide the amenities necessary to address the expanding needs of the community and to improve accessibility,” the release states.

Other departments will be on the move as well, with Jacques noting the planning department is expected to move into the Libro Centre in August. Other departments that will eventually be moved there including the economic development office, special projects and procurement. Jacques said it is unknown as yet when exactly those offices would be moving.
