The Town of Amherstburg has a new full-time chief administrative officer (CAO).

Mayor Wayne Hurst announced during Monday night’s meeting that Mike Phipps has been hired to the position and will begin his duties with the town tomorrow (June 27). The town had discussed the matter at an in-camera meeting earlier in the evening before passing the motion to hire Phipps in the public session.

Hurst said Phipps brings “a wealth of experience” to the position as he has been a CAO for over 25 years. He pointed out Phipps’ experience in economic development, strategic planning and finance.

“His experience, leadership and strong organizational skills will allow us to progress in the last half of this term of council,” said Hurst.

Phipps has agreed to a two-year contract with the town. He was not in attendance Monday night.

In his role with the town, Phipps will be responsible for all the operations of the municipality as well as the execution of council’s strategic plan. A press release distributed after the meeting stated Phipps “will also bring a level of accountability to the organization while emphasizing communications with council and regular reporting on all council and staff initiatives.”

Kristina Pozar DiPaolo, who had been serving as acting CAO, is no longer with the municipality. She finished with the town June 14.
