A local automotive dealership has decided to step up even further to help the community this holiday season.

Thrasher Sales and Leasing gave out free turkeys to two local community organizations with 30 turkeys in various sizes being split between the Amherstburg Food Bank and the Amherstburg Food & Fellowship Mission. Volunteers from both organizations attended the dealership last Wednesday morning.

Dealer principal Ken Thrasher said he and his staff chose to give back to the community rather than celebrate the Christmas season amongst each other.

“We didn’t have a Christmas party this year,” said Thrasher. “(The staff) felt fortunate in this day and age to have a job and be working. They wanted to help the community and organizations in our community.”

Lucille Thrasher, president of the Amherstburg Food Bank, pointed out the donations will be going to people that will be grateful for them.

“The turkey donations are much appreciated and we sincerely thank Thrasher Sales for their very generous donation,” said Thrasher. “Many people will benefit from their gift this holiday season. Now is the time when the Food Bank is very much needed and to receive a turkey in their bag will be an extra special surprise. Thrasher Sales donated last year and we had some good comments about this ‘special’ Christmas gift.”
