For the third consecutive year, the River Lights “Decorating Divas” were at Canadian Tire making things more festive.

The Divas decorated three trees this year at the store with River Lights co-ordinator Sarah Van Grinsven pointing out it is done in conjunction with the Holiday House Tours, one of the events that is part of the River Lights Winter Festival.

In return for decorating the Christmas trees, Canadian Tire makes a donation to the Holiday House Tours, she added.

“We, in turn, decorate a home for the house tours with Canadian Tire products,” she added.

The River Lights “Decorating Divas” joined Canadian Tire staff in decorating three trees at the store last Monday. The Holiday House Tours are coming Dec. 3-4 and one of the ten homes will be decorated with items all found at Canadian Tire in Amherstburg.

Van Grinsven said tickets are $25 and on sale at the Gordon House, Sobeys, Pied-A-Terre, the Village Shop and Park House Museum. There will be ten stops on the tour this year with mainland waterfront properties being the focus.

River Lights gets underway this weekend with the Downtown Holiday Nights starting Friday night and the tree lighting Saturday night. The latter follows the Super Santa Run, which starts at 5 p.m. on downtown streets.

A group of local women were at a local business last week getting Christmas trees ready for the Holiday House Tours.

The group that playfully calls themselves the “Decorating Divas”  decorated ten Christmas trees at the Amherstburg Canadian Tire store last week.  This group is actually the Holiday House Tours committee formed by River Light Winter Festival.

“Jeff Levy, owner of our local Canadian Tire, is a great supporter of River Lights.  He helps us show case our talents and in turn donates supplies to the Holiday House Tours which is our largest fundraiser,” says Sarah Van Grinsven, coordinator of River Lights Winter Festival.

A committee of nine local women make up the Holiday House Tours committee. Van Grinsven stated they are “a dedicated group of volunteers who work all year long to plan an event that showcases Amherstburg’s beauty and heritage while forming partnerships and supporting not for profit businesses in the community.”

This year’s House Tours will take place Nov. 28 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Nov. 29 from 1-6 p.m. There will be eight homes showcased throughout the Pointe West area and the downtown core.  The special tea room and wine tasting area will be located in the Amherstburg Freedom Museum.

“This is a terrific partnership,” says Monica Bunde, the Holiday House Tours committee chairperson. “It gives us a chance to highlight the Freedom Museum, and in turn we donate a portion of the proceeds raised to help support them.”
