Harrow woman injured in Amherstburg crash, Amherstburg woman dies after crash in Chatham-Kent

Amherstburg police investigated a number of accidents last week, including a serious crash Friday afternoon on County Road 50, just south of County Road 20 near Malden Centre. The road was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash which saw a 19-year-old woman from Harrow taken to hospital with severe injuries. According to the Amherstburg Police Service, the vehicle was southbound on County Road 50, struck loose gravel on the shoulder, lost control and ended up near a ditch on the east side of the road and struck a culvert. The 2008 Volkswagen was on its roof.
The crash is still under investigation, police add, though note the driver was in stable condition as of Sunday. The crash was reported at 2:08 p.m. Friday.

•A two-car accident at the corner of Simcoe St. and Meloche Road Sunday morning saw a 65-year-old Windsor man charged with disobeying a stop sign. Amherstburg police say there were no injuries in the accident, which occurred at roughly 10 a.m.
•There were no charges or injuries in a minor accident June 13 around 5:30 p.m. where a nine-year-old girl on her bicycle was struck at the intersection of Sandwich St. S. and Pickering Dr.
•Amherstburg police investigated three separate accidents in various rural locations in town where motorists struck deer. Amherstburg police are asking motorists use caution when driving in rural areas and keep an eye open for deer near the roadways.
•Around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, emergency crews in Chatham-Kent responded to a single motor collision on Erie Shore Drive, just outside the community of Erie Beach. The driver and sole occupant, lost control of her Pontiac Grand Am, left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch.
The 51-year-old Amherstburg woman was transported to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance with life-threatening injuries and transferred to London for further medical treatment. Chatham-Kent police say she succumbed to her injuries on Monday.
The name of the woman is not being released per the request of the family.

Thefts   Amherstburg police state a 22-year-old local man is facing charges after a vehicle was stolen from the Mac’s Milk parking lot on Sandwich St. North. Police say the vehicle was recovered not long after the incident was reported with the vehicle recovered a short distance away. The vehicle is a 2002 Chevy Cavalier. Police say the man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle. It occurred around 1:50 a.m. last Wednesday.
•A John Deere X-530 lawn tractor was reported stolen Saturday morning from a home in the 3200 block of County Road 10. Police say the theft occurred during the overnight hours. The lawn mower is valued at approximately $8,900.

Stats   Amherstburg police issued 80 tickets under the Highway Traffic Act and related statutes. There were eight 911 hangup calls and three alarm calls.
