The Shores of Erie (SOE) International Wine Festival committee’s second stint at Lobsterfest was a successful one.

Roughly 220 people attended the SOE spring event, held in the lobby of the UCCU Complex Saturday night and the results far exceeded SOE’s expectations.

“We sold way beyond last year. It was a nice increase from last year,” said festival director Kelly O’Rourke. “The people who came last year who came with  four people came with eight or 12 people this year.”

O’Rourke said attendees raved about how smoothly the event unfolded throughout the evening and “loved” how big the food portions were.

According to O’Rourke approximately 200 lobsters and 80 servings of prime rib were served. She also added that Lobsterfest was a success in large part due to its sponsors. Sobeys and Zehrs were two of the biggest supporters.

While providing a good time for those who attend, Lobsterfest also serves as a reminder that the Wine Festival is just around the corner.

“This gives us an opportunity to get out there and have people remember ‘oh yes, it’s Shores of Erie time’,” said O’Rourke. “In June our tickets will go on sale and in September we have our event. So Lobsterfest is our big kick off and gets people thinking about us again.”

In only its second year, O’Rourke noted that Lobsterfest is quickly becoming another “premier event” for Amherstburg.

“We try to be different than all the other events,” she said. “We try to kick it up a notch. We try to keep it really classy. We go to a lot of work to make this extra special and I think it shows, people are really noticing.”

The Ninth Annual Shores of Erie International Wine Festival is set for Sept. 5-8 at Fort Malden National Historic Site.
