Select Seven travel hockey team holding fundraiser Jan. 6

Special to the RTT

The Amherstburg Select Seven travel hockey team has hit the ice for the season.

The Stars Select Seven travel hockey team started their season with a tough game against the Southpoint Capitals just over a week ago but all the players had a blast and are looking forward to continuing in practicing hard for the next games to come, said coach Steve Laliberty.

The select seven team is comprised of players from the novice division and a few are from the senior tykes division.

Laliberty said this is an introductory team into travel hockey, and gives the kids a great  opportunity to get out there, travel a bit,  and get a taste of the competitive level that the Amherstburg Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) travel program has to offer.

“With the players, parents and coaching staff to thank for all of their assistance with the team, I am extremely honored to lead this group together into a fun filled year for everyone,” said Laliberty.

The Select Sevens are holding a fundraiser at Armando’s Jan. 6. Armando’s has offered to donate 15 per cent of total sales from all take-out orders to the team. Armando’s is located at 421 Sandwich St. S. and their phone number is 519-736-0736.

The team encourages the community to “ring in the new year right and place a take-out order for lunch or dinner that day and tell them, when you pay for your food, it’s to support the AMHA Select Seven players in their first year of travel hockey.”
