The winner of the Grade 9 scratch art contest at General Amherst High School was happy her work made it into the contest and even happier when it won.

Vanessa Pidutti captured the scratch art contest with the work being judged by parents and prospective students at General Amherst’s recent Grade 8 open house Pidutti said she was looking for a topic to work on for a project in art class and found she was interested in a photo of fish. She liked the patterns seen in the fish and decided it was the topic for her.

“I really liked it,” said Pidutti.

Art teacher Andrea Craig-Wammes said it started as a class assignment with a group of nine pieces of scratch art chosen to take part in the contest. She said the Grade 8 open house was chosen for a specific reason to be the place where the judging occurred.

“I wanted to give Grade 8’s a chance to experience Grade 9 art,” explained Craig-Wammes.

Pidutti said she was happy her work was chosen to be part of the competition and even happier when she found out it was chosen as the winner.

“Winning made it that much better,” said Pidutti.
