Schools hold students in place while search warrant executed

 

Officers with the Amherstburg Police Service executed a search warrant on Fort St. with the possibility of firearms existing at the time.

The search warrant caused area schools to be notified with Amherstburg police stating that “nearby schools were requested to hold their students in place during the execution of the warrant as a precautionary measure.”

Amherstburg police block off Fort St. Friday afternoon as a search warrant was executed. Area schools held their students in place during the search. No firearms were found and no charges are expected.

Amherstburg police had Fort St. blocked between the side entrance to Sobeys and Balaclava St. while the warrant was being executed.

No firearms were located and no criminal charges are expected, police state.

Amherstburg police adds there are no further public safety concerns.

Amherstburg Police offered their thanks to the schools involved as well as the public for their patience and understanding.

Police stated that no further is available.
