Run for Heroes Marathon gets weatherman

Special to the RTT

Over the past number of years the affect of climate change can be felt all around us during every season. Nothing is more telling and immediate to our well being as the growing occurrences of microburst storms that are high in intensity, rapidly forming and relatively small in geographic scope.

We have seen across the world over the past number of months these types of storms hit outdoor public events like concerts and have catastrophic and fatal consequences, In the constant pursuit of safety and public well being as the hallmark of our run, the World Alzheimer’s Day Run for Heroes Marathon is exited to announce that Paul Gross, Senior Climatologist for NBC and Executive Producer of Weather for WDIV Detroit Channel 4, has agreed to be out official Climatologist.

Paul studied meteorology at the University of Michigan Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Science, an extra challenging curriculum due to its location in the prestigious College of Engineering.

His passion for meteorology quickly earned him recognition among his peers, as Paul became one of the youngest meteorologists ever selected to serve on the American Meteorological Society’s Board of Broadcast Meteorology in 1987, and was named chairman in 1990. But it is Paul’s science and environmental reporting that has helped change the paradigm of broadcast meteorology.

Being one of the few Marathons in the world to have an official climatologist allows the world Alzheimer’s Day Run for Heroes marathon the ability to call or postpone the race based on region specific custom modeling of weather cells more accurately and quicker than relying on generic news services. Keeping the safety of our participants, families, volunteers and citizens of Amherstburg as our priority that morning.

The World Alzheimer’s Day Run for Heroes Marathon is in the fifth years and will be offering a 5K walk/run, 10K, 21K, 32K and 42K race lengths around beautiful and historic Amherstburg. The marathon course is measured and is an official Boston Marathon qualifier.

All proceeds to benefit caregiver support programs through the Alzheimer Society of Windsor/Essex.
