A local builder has teamed with a pair of local real estate agents and has relaunched a townhouse development that had stalled.

Drew Coulson of Coulson Design-Build has joined forces with John D’Alimonte of Re/Max and Ron Deneau of Bob Pedler Real Estate Ltd. to restart the Riverfront Park townhouse development just south of the Amherstburg police station.

With 29 lots remaining to be developed, Coulson said they hope to begin construction within the next two to three weeks. The townhomes will be accessible and energy efficient and a model unit could be available within 90 days.

“The quicker they move, the better it is for everyone,” said Coulson.

Deneau believes there is a definite demand for townhomes like the Riverfront Park development, particularly in the location it is in.

“We’ve already received a couple of orders for these units,” said Deneau.

D’Alimonte stated there are a lot of amenities within a short distance of the townhouse development, making it a great location.

“It stalled because of the economy five years ago,” stated D’Alimonte. “We feel the time is right now.”

“It’s pretty much a great location,” agreed Coulson.

Coulson indicated the architecture will remain similar to what is already there, though noted the new units will have such features as prairie style roofs and stone features.

Mayor Wayne Hurst, Deputy Mayor Ron Sutherland and councillors John Sutton, Carolyn Davies and Bob Pillon at a groundbreaking ceremony held last Monday afternoon. Hurst said he was glad to see Coulson take over the build of the units and was “very pleased” with the new development.

“This isn’t happening by accident,” he said. “We’ve made tremendous investments in our community.”
Hurst cited the recent opening of the upgraded and expanded wastewater treatment plant as an example of the investments in the town, stating at the groundbreaking that should serve Amherstburg for 25-30 years.

Sutherland believed the restarting of the Riverfront Park townhomes will be a great addition to Amherstburg.

“This is going to add to the beauty of the south end of town,” said Sutherland. “It’s going to be very nice. I can’t wait to get it done.”
