Rebecca Krug is trading in the black and gold of General Amherst Lady Gens for the green and yellow of the St. Clair Saints.

Rebecca KrugThe 5’2” Krug will play libero for the Saints.

Krug said she was interested in playing at the next level and was given the phone of St. Clair women’s volleyball coach, Chris Brecka, by Amherst athletic director John Rudak.

“She told me to come to their practices,” she said. “I’ve been practicing with them for about four weeks now.”

She noted that the practices mainly consist of scrimmages, so the players can develop chemistry amongst each other.

“I have to get used to playing with a bunch of different girls, but they are really good and they are really nice. I’m really excited, so far it’s been really good,” said Krug.

The former Lady Gen, who was an important cog in the teams success at the WECSSAA, SWOSSAA and OFSAA level noted coaches Jeff Miller and Mary Ewer did an “amazing job” preparing her to play at the next level.

She said while playing for Miller and Ewer, the team “never took losing well” which prepared her to keep playing hard.

“I learned to play hard all the time,” she said. “There is no slacking. It’s about getting to your spot and be quick.”

She added her time with the Lady Gens taught her how to be a “dedicated athlete.”

Krug said it is sad leaving all the memories of playing in a Lady Gens uniform behind; she is prepared for the next challenge.

“I’m totally ready, I’m really exciting,” said Krug.

“Rebecca is a dynamo,” said coach Bracka in a statement on St. Clair’s website.  “Her positive attitude and competitive spirit make her a great addition to our team.  I expect her to keep things active for us throughout the season.”
