The riding’s new Member of Parliament has opened her new constituency office.

Essex MP Tracey Ramsey held an open house at her new office, located in the plaza at 316 Talbot St. North in Essex. The office is next door to Essex MPP Taras Natyshak.

Ramsey said it was “amazing” to have her office finally opened.

“It feels good to be able to help people and say ‘here’s a place you can go’,” said Ramsey. “We are excited to be open. We welcome people to come.”

Since being sworn into office Nov. 16, Ramsey has had to use e-mail and her Facebook site to try and assist people. However, having an office will make things easier for constituents, she believed.

“It’s really nice to say we are open and willing to help,” she said.

Ramsey, who knocked off incumbent Jeff Watson in the Oct. 19 federal election, said the feedback has been “great” since the election as well as since the office opened. She said there is a chance of having events throughout the year at the office while she also speculates there may be events in surrounding communities so she can get input from residents.

“I have a lot of things I’m looking at,” said Ramsey.

The new constituency office has two staff members, including a former staff member of retired Windsor-Tecumseh MP Joe Comartin who will assist in helping residents.

Ramsey recently returned from Ottawa, where she was one of the new MP’s making their debuts in the House of Commons. She said she plans on putting the Essex riding in the forefront for other Canadians.

“We have some issues but we have a lot to offer,” said Ramsey.

The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is something she has started to address in the House of Commons, as it remains a big issue for her and her party.

“The TPP reflects jobs,” the NDP MP said. “Jobs are still top of mind.”

Ramsey’s contact phone number is 519-776-4700 and she can be contacted via e-mail at tracey.ramsey@parl.gc.ca.
