Police warns residents of latest scam

After a number of threatening phone calls, received by Amherstburg homeowners, police are warning resident about what they believe could be a possible identity theft scam.

Police say the scam involves an unknown caller, phoning people claiming to be a computer repair technician. The caller then reportedly requests the homeowner to log on to a website, where the caller can access the home computer from their location.

When the homeowner refuses, the caller becomes abusive.

Police advise residents to be careful of this type of call and not to give out personal and computer access information over the phone.
