After concluding its investigation involving a suspended Amherstburg police sergeant, the Amherstburg Police Services Board (APSB) announcement the officer will face charges next month.

Councilor John Sutton, chair of the APSB told the River Town Times that Sgt. Colleen Sterling was suspended from duty with pay pending an internal investigation regarding record keeping.

“Sgt. Sterling has been served a notice to attend a hearing on Oct. 5,” said Sutton.

The hearing will be open to the public at 10 a.m. in the community room of the police station.

Sgt. Sterling, a 12-year veteran of the Amherstburg   Police Services is facing charges of discreditable conduct, deceit and neglect of duty.

Due to the pending hearing, Sutton said the APSB or the Amherstburg Police Services will not discuss the particulars of the matter until after the hearing has concluded.

“It’s just better for all sides that nothing is discussed until the hearing has been completed,” stated Sutton.
