Jon and Carey-Jo Lindsey welcomed their fourth child, Edelle Elizabeth, into the world Jan. 1. The couple’s first daughter is named after musician Ed Sheeran, who they saw at a private concert in New York last year.

Edelle Elizabeth Lindsey was born at 8:44 a.m. Jan. 1 and is the fourth child – first daughter – of Jon and Carey-Jo (C.J.) Lindsey with the couple also caring for two foster children as well. In addition to her birthday, Edelle was named after three-time Grammy-nominated musician Ed Sheeran after Sheeran himself told the Amherstburg couple they should consider having more children and joked they should name their next child after him when the Lindseys saw him at a private concert in New York last May.

C.J. explained she liked Sheeran on Facebook and saw a contest where the winners could attend a secret gig of Sheeran’s in New York put on by Nokia. She entered, explained her and Jon hadn’t had a date night in nine months and pointed out the fact they care for foster children as well as their own. A couple of days later, the couple received a response which told them they were short-listed.

Once on the short-list, C.J. said they subsequently were the subject of a 30-minute telephone interview. In the days following, they waited for the phone to ring and when it didn’t in the time frame promised, the couple assumed they weren’t headed to New York. However, the phone would eventually ring and they were told they indeed had won the contest and ended up at a private concert.

“It was an incredible night including an hour and a half long private concert complete with him dedicating ‘our’ song to us and singing it to us while we danced in front of the stage. He then stated that even though we already have a lot of children after a night like this we should at least try to have another one and suggested we name it after him,” she said. “Well, after our whirlwind trip complete with him giving us tickets to watch him open the latest Taylor Swift show at Ford Field we soon found out we were expecting!”
Sheeran opened for Swift and the Lindseys had explained to Sheeran in New York that they had previously been unable to get tickets for the Ford Field show.

“He was actually really looking forward to meeting us,” she said. “We got to go to New York City and be treated like we were famous. It was pretty cool. Who thinks they are going to see their favourite singer sing their favourite song to them while dancing in front of the stage. It’s like a movie scene.”

While the first part of Edelle’s life journey was like a storybook, her delivery had its stressful moments. C.J. went to the hospital because she didn’t feel any fetal movement so she was induced and delivered Edelle a month early. The baby was diagnosed with a virus compounded by the fact there were issues with the placenta as well as the fact she had a bowel movement in the womb complicating matters. The couple were told their newest arrival would be in the hospital for three weeks but she was able to be discharged in four days.

“She kind of blew everyone out of the water,” said Jon. “They thought she’d be in shock but she’s doing better than expected.”

C.J. said Edelle is now five pounds, two ounces after being born at four pounds, 12 ounces.

“She’s doing great,” she said.
