New president at the helm of Amherstburg Rotary Club

There was a changing of the guard with the Amherstburg Rotary Club.

Rotary WarkBill Wark was officially installed as the Amherstburg Rotary Club’s president at their meeting last Wednesday night. He replaces Lena Lazanja, who was presented with a pin and gift as recognition for her term as president.

Wark complemented his predecessor on her time as the local club’s president.

“You’ve done an excellent job,” Wark told Lazanja. “It’s a pleasure to take the reins of the club from you.”

The Amherstburg Rotary Club is “blessed” to have the members it has, stated Wark. The service club, fresh of presenting its fourth annual Ribfest, also gets a lot of support from the general public, he added.

“If it wasn’t for the volunteers, our members and our community, we wouldn’t be able to do the things we do,” said Wark.

The Amherstburg Rotary Club always tries to undertake projects that have the best interests of Amherstburg in mind, he stated. Those projects are consistent with the “Rotary way” and the club’s four-way test, Wark added.

“I hope to carry on in Lena’s very capable shoes,” said Wark.

Lazanja said she was very confident leaving the reins of the club in Wark’s hands. Wark had been president prior to her so she said she knows the job is in capable hands.

The Amherstburg Rotary Club meets every Wednesday for dinner meetings at Royal Canadian Legion Br. 157 starting at 6:30 p.m. For further information, visit
