New name coming to United Communities Credit Union Complex

The merger of United Communities Credit Union and Libro Financial Group will mean a new name for Amherstburg’s recreation complex.

Town council formally approved changes to the naming rights agreement for the United Communities Credit Union Complex, as the name will be changing to the Libro Credit Union Centre. The changeover should be completed by the end of March 2014, as signs have to be switched and painted.

“The naming rights for the recreation complex are currently with United Communities Credit Union. With the merger approved, Libro Credit Union is now the entity of record,” said manager of business development and programming Rick Daly in a report to town council. “The new name of the Complex proposed by the credit union is the Libro Credit Union Centre, with secondary naming to be Libro Centre.”

Daly noted that a re-branding process has begun throughout southwestern Ontario including the credit union taking inventory of all its signage properties associated with United Communities Credit Union.

“This inventory is extensive in Amherstburg because of the naming rights agreement for the Complex,” said Daly.

The name change and associated signage alterations will come at no cost to the taxpayer, alluded Daly in his report.

“Section 2.03 of the current naming rights agreement states that any costs and expenses arising from changes to the Standards and/or changes to the Complex name, as may be approved by Amherstburg, shall be the sole responsibility of United Communities (Credit Union),” stated Daly. “This includes all signage with the name of United Communities Credit Union or the showing the credit union ‘tree’ insignia. All interior and exterior way-finding signs as well as any print and promotional materials will be changed.”

Administration is working with credit union staff “to determine a timeline by which work is completed on re-branding the recreation complex,” noted Daly.

As much as the “high profile signage” is on the exterior of the building or on the sign at the intersection of Simcoe St. and Meloche Road, weather is a factor in getting the work complete, Daly pointed out.

The credit union merger officially comes into effect Jan. 1.
