Amherstburg’s Miss Canada Jaclyn Miles needs your help.

Miles has entered a video contest aimed at women to discover “who inspires you” with the winner to be awarded $10,000.

The “Who inspires you” campaign, sponsored by Tri-Cyclen Lo strives to empower and unite young women across Canada. The campaign celebrates accomplishments of remarkable young women by collecting stories that spark motivation, build community and above all inspire and empower women.

The campaign also creates an opportunity for young women to share their dreams and aspirations. Their goal is to

celebrate young women making choices to pursue their dreams.

Miles entered the contest as a way to raise funds for a national tour this summer.

“It’s important as Miss Canada that I try to go everywhere in Canada,” said Miles. “This would help me so much because I

have no funding for my organization right now.”

In her video, Miles said she described what she would use the money for, as well as, discussing the goal she wishes to achieve as Miss Canada.

“Because I am a victim of multiple forms of violent abuse it inspires me to help people,” she said. ‘I’ve been through it and can empathize with them. I know the type of help they need and I know how to relate to people who are seeking help.”

Time is not on Miles’ side however, as she entered her video a little late in the contest.

Ten videos will chosen to advance to the second round with the top three videos with the most views being automatically awarded $500 toward their cause. The deadline for viewing first round videos is May 18.

“Some people have been in the contest since mid-March,” said Miles. “The top video has 3,300 views. I want to try and beat that.”

Miles has even caught the eye of Caledonia, Manitoba MP Joy Smith. Miles said Smith made a video for Miles to include in her contest video.

“She does a lot of work in anti-trafficking and the work I do is closely related to that,” said Miles. “She’s really supportive of the work that I have been doing.”

Miles said she’s very grateful for the support she receives from her hometown and feels this project will be no different.

“Amherstburg has been so supportive of me and it’s been awesome,” she said. “I am so proud to be from Amherstburg.”
