Golfers hit the links at Sutton Creek Golf Club all to assist the Miracle League of Amherstburg.

When the Aug. 16 charity golf tournament was all said and done, it was announced that $16,400 had been raised. Miracle League publicity director Michele Vigneux said all proceeds go back into the league and supports the players whether it be new equipment, improvements at the diamond and any other ways to enhance the experience for the players.

Vigneux said it was “perfect weather and a perfect day” with “a great group of golfers. We’re thrilled with who we have here.”

In all, she said 116 golfers participated with some lucky golfers taking home a week-long trip to a luxury house in Florida, a trip to Texas, and a trip to California thanks to Mike Bondy, who helped organize the tournament. All sponsors, donors and participants were thanked by Vigneux.

“This is our only fundraiser we are doing this year,” said Vigneux. “It’s all about showing our gratitude to golfers this year.”

The Miracle League board also hopes the golf tournament gives them additional exposure, which will translate into additional volunteers and supporters. Board of directors president Chuck Bondy said that people often return once they experience Miracle League first-hand.

“Once you come out once, you’ll never go away. You’ll come back,” he said.

Two players, Josh and Zach Zeiter, were this year’s ambassadors.

“I love playing baseball. Miracle League rocks!” Josh said, to the applause of the crowd at the post-tournament dinner.
