Runners and walkers hit the streets of McGregor with the chance to enjoy beer from nine Ontario breweries when they returned.

The third annual McGregor Mug Run was held Saturday afternoon with the 5K course starting and ending at Co-An Park. The craft beer festival, featuring the band Bigg Wiggle, followed the run/walk.

Organizer Ryan Raymond said they had one brewery being represented at the finish line in past years but expanded it this year to include nine breweries. He estimated there were at least 260 participants in the 5K run/walk.

“We’re doing this to raise money for the McGregor Health Centre and for ERCA’s ‘Trail On!’ campaign,” explained Raymond.

Raymond, a McGregor native who now lives in Toronto, said those causes were chosen because many residents will be able to benefit from the health centre. He added the “Trail On!” proceeds go to fund the development of the greenway trail spur between Amherstburg and Essex.

There were at least 1,000 people at the craft beer festival that followed the 5K run/walk, he said.

“We think it’s a fun event,” said Raymond. “The weather held out. It’s cool and breezy but it’s not raining.”

The 2015 McGregor Mug Run will be much bigger, Raymond predicted, including a shuttle service that will take people home right to their doors.
