Fourteen-year-old local drag racer Luke Schwemler drove his 2014 Mike Bos Pro II X2 Jr Dragster to numerous wins as he finished the season as the 2014 Jr. Dragster Points Champion at Grand Bend Motorplex.

Luke won the points in the 13-17 age division and then the track champion title in a final round that had a margin of victory of 0.002 seconds. Luke is a Grade 9 student at St. Thomas of Villanova and has been racing since age 9 and this is his second track championship.

The Schwemler family has been racing since 1967 and Luke is the third generation racer. The team races at Grand Bend Motorplex but also competes in the United States and has travelled as far as Georgia to race with the ADRL.

Luke’s car is the latest design chassis which enables it to cover the 1/8 mile track in 7.90 seconds at speeds reaching 134 km/h.

“The car has about 85 pounds of weight added to slow it down as we are not allowed to go quicker then 7.90 seconds, it would probably run in the 7.50 range with the weight removed. It is a lot quicker than any production car made today” says crew chief and dad, Dean Schwemler.

The team traveled to U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, MI last weekend for the IHRA Division 5 Bracket Nationals where Luke competed in the Race of Champions. Luke wants to thank his mom, dad, gram and pops for all their support and hard work.
