A group of students from General Amherst High School are heading to Michigan soon to participate in a “Peace Summit” and are hoping to bring winter clothes and blankets with them.

Five members of the school’s Interact Club are heading to Canton, Michigan for the summit this Saturday. Those members include Darby Little, Riley Little, Katie Stevenson, Mackenzie Robson and Makayla Sesto.

Robson said she was contacted about attending the Peace Summit and the five club members agreed to go. The Interact Club at General Amherst High School is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Amherstburg.

The local girls’ project for the Peace Summit is the blanket and clothing drive with their goal being to help those that are homeless. Among the gently used items they are hoping for in addition to blankets are hats, gloves, scarves, sweaters, and coats.

The goods will be decorated and spruced up before they are donated to the homeless, said Robson.

The drive runs through Feb. 26 with donations being accepted at either General Amherst High School or the Catz Meow Dance Education Centre.

“It’s a really short notice thing but we’d like as much help as possible,” said Robson.
