A local realtor has purchased another business, one that he feels will be a good match with real estate.

Dan Gemus, who now operates his Dan Gemus Real Estate Team Ltd. out of his newly renovated office at 61 Richmond St., has now completed his first week as the new owner of Duby’s Home Centre.

Gemus has rebranded the business under that new name, tweaking it from the former name of Duby’s Flooring and Decorating. The change includes a new logo, brand and website (www.dubys.ca).

“When Dave and Faustine (Deslippe) sold it in 2014, I remember thinking to myself ‘man, that would have made a great fit into what we are doing’,” said Gemus.

When the opportunity arose again to make a purchase of Duby’s, Gemus jumped on it and the deal closed late last month. He said people often need flooring, paint, window coverings and similar supplies when selling or purchasing a home so he believes owning Duby’s is an ideal match.

Gemus said he is “a huge supporter of the town” and wants to see the town succeed. That is why he made another investment in the town. He bought the building at 61 Richmond St. last year with that building not only housing his new real estate office, but Rosa’s Restaurant as well;.

“People trust Duby’s,” he added, noting he wants to maintain that trust and grow the business as well. “We’re going to do what we need to do to keep business in town.”

The response to his purchase of Duby’s has been “awesome” thus far, with Gemus adding he plans to work as hard at Duby’s as he has at with his real estate team.

Gemus said he wants to bring in more categories of products and services, noting such products as Levilor blinds are on the way. A goal for the store is to cater to people of all income levels, from high end to low end. There is free home delivery of paint products and free in-home estimates, he added. Gemus also stated he wants to team with other local services and tradespeople to be able to assist people with the home needs they may have.

There is also customer financing available.

Many people are offering advice on what to change and what to bring in and Gemus said he welcomes it all.

“I love the feedback and I want to hear it all,” he said.

Plans for Duby’s also calls for additional use of the building’s second floor. Staff members will stay on board including Tracie Sutts, Alyssa Beaudoin and installers, who include Chris Potter and Mark Delmore.

“Everyone is ecstatic about the rejuvenation of this business,” said Gemus.

Duby’s Home Centre is located at 269 Ramsay St. and can be contacted at 519-736-4021 or info@dubys.ca.
