March 7 wasn’t a regular night at work for Jean (John) Savoie.

After purchasing a scratch ticket – Instant Aces and 8’s – at the Petro Canada on Walker Road, the Amherstburg resident discovered after he had gotten to work that he had won.

“I thought I won $10,000,” he said. “Someone told me I won $100,000. I was pretty happy.”

Plans for the winnings include paying bills, putting money towards his children’s education and perhaps a new Harley Davidson motorcycle.

“I’ve had a hard life,” he said. “It helps out.”

Savoie said “everyone is happy for me” and said he will likely stop buying scratch tickets, though added he will probably keep buying Lotto Max and Lotto 6/49 tickets.

“Who knows? I might get lucky. I don’t think I’ll win again on another scratch ticket,” he said.

Despite his good fortune, Savoie is keeping a level head.

“The biggest prize I’ve ever won is the family I’ve got,” he said. “It’s only money. It doesn’t make you any happier.”
