If you saw medalists with red roses at the International Children’s Games (ICG), chances are there is an Amherstburg connection.

ICG FloristAmherstburg Flowers & Gifts was an official florist for the games and donated 500 long-stem red roses for the medalists to have while in Windsor-Essex County.

Shop owner Susan Hadfield said the connection with the ICG came about roughly three months ago.

“It was just kind of on a whim that I contacted the committee,” said Hadfield.

Amherstburg Flowers & Gifts was approved and Hadfield notes it was because organizers wanted to ensure there were connections to Essex County.

“They didn’t want it to be just Windsor,” said Hadfield.

Hadfield was hopeful that in her own way, she could bring a little bit of the spotlight to Amherstburg.

“By us being involved, hopefully it puts some of the attention on Amherstburg,” she said.

Hadfield was at Forest Glade Arena during the ICG selling flowers as well.

“I think it’s cool,” she said, of being involved. “When you think of the children coming from all of the countries to our communities, it’s cool to be involved. What a great experience for the children.”

Hadfield added she was not thinking about the monetary aspect of her donation, saying she just wanted to be involved.

“It’s about the volunteer aspect of it,” said Hadfield.

Living, working and owning a business in Amherstburg “is awesome,” said Hadfield and she hopes her experience with the ICG is able to open a few eyes of others to come to town.

“It’s a great experience and I hope it brings some attention to our town as well,” said Hadfield.
