Lady Gens taken out in semi-finals in weekend tourney

This past weekend the Amherst Senior girl’s basketball team took part in the Fanshawe College Invitational.  In their first game they defeated London Lucas by a score of 37-27. Trailing by two at the half Amherst outscored Lucas 21-2 in the third quarter.  Katie Breault had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Lindsay Kondracki and Jaylin VandeBovenkamp had 10 points each and Aleah Marton had six.

In their second game they took on Sarnia St. Clair and led 17-9 at the half before opening up a 19 point lead midway through the fourth quarter and then coasting to a 43-27 victory. Breault had 18 points and 17 rebounds, VandeBovenkamp had eight points Kondracki had seven points and seven rebounds Marton had six points and Mackenzie Morencie and Karli Ficociello had two each.

In the semi final game Amherst was down 24-7 in the first quarter against Mother Theresa from London before mounting a comeback and knotting the score at 26. Mother Theresa then went on an 8-0 run to take a 36-28 halftime lead. Amherst could get no closer in the second half and were defeated by a 57-49 score. VandeBovenkamp led the scoring with 19 points and Breault had 15 points, Marton had six, Kondracki had five, Robin Kellam and Alex Leroux had two each.
