It’s back to the finals for the General Amherst Lady Gens girls hockey team.

The Lady Gens swept Harrow in convincing fashion last week, capping the best-of-three series with a 6-0 win in Harrow last Thursday afternoon. Goal scorers for General Amherst were Savannah Bouzide with two, Renee Reid with two and one each for Jaycie Stanek and Cate Hubbell.

Megan Wismer picked up the shutout in net for the Lady Gens and Wismer only allowed one goal in the two games. Amherst won Game 1 last Wednesday afternoon with an 11-1 victory at the Libro Centre.

Lady Gens head coach Scott Hamelin said games like that can be difficult for the winning side as well as the losing side. From his perspective, he said he has to “keep the girls going” and not let them fall into bad habits while at the same time respecting the game and their opponents.

“Our girls are ready to make a run,” said Hamelin.

The Lady Gens’ long-term goals haven’t changed, he added, as they hope to repeat as WECSSAA A/AA champions and do the same at the SWOSSAA level. The team would like a second straight trip to OFSAA.

Spreading the scoring, maintaining discipline and respecting the game are goals the team is also hoping to achieve in order for them to achieve their larger goals. Hamelin said that Wismer has been very solid for the Lady Gens in goal.
