The General Amherst Lady Gens girls soccer team didn’t start the WECSSAA Tier 2 season the way they wanted but the coaches still liked the effort.

The Lady Gens dropped a 2-0 decision to the visiting Brennan Cardinals last Thursday afternoon at the Libro Centre with the Cardinals scoring both goals in the second half. The Lady Gens were supposed to open the season last Tuesday against Lajeunesse but that game was wiped out due to inclement weather conditions.

General Amherst coach Eric Jaber said the Lady Gens still put forth a good effort in the loss to Brennan.

“The girls worked hard. They put on a good effort,” said Jaber.

The Lady Gens played aggressively, he added, and said they have to keep working hard and improve their positioning.

“I liked how we talked to each other,” he added. “There’s a lot of communication out there.”

Jaber added that while roughly two-thirds of the Lady Gens team are returnees from last year, the team is still very young. The expectation for this season is simply to go out on the field and play hard every game, he added.
