The General Amherst girls hockey team played in their third game of the season and once again came away with a lopsided win.

The Lady Gens defeated Tecumseh Vista Academy 8-1 Monday afternoon at the United Communities Credit Union Complex. Savannah Bouzide and Heather Lenson each scored a pair for Amherst with Brianne Fields, Megan Farmer, Emily Hamelin, and Renee Reid each adding single tallies.

“It was a good overall effort. The kids are smiling and working hard out there,” said Amherst head coach Scott Hamelin. “The team is in a good place.”

Hamelin acknowledged Vista was missing some of their better players but noted the Lady Gens are three lines deep. He is thinking of scheduling exhibition games with AAA and AAAA sized opponents to help the Lady Gens gain experience.

“The girls are buying into hard work on both sides of the puck,” he said.

Defenseman Jenna Meloche said they are playing well and can accomplish a lot through effort and working together. She sees similarities between Lady Gens’ teams of the past and the Tecumseh squad.

“We definitely see ourselves in them from a few years ago,” said Meloche. “We wish them all the luck in the world.”

Reid said she believed the Lady Gens did well in Monday’s game adding she thinks they can be a strong club that scores a lot of goals this season.

“We have a really good team this year that passes the puck well,” said Reid.

After defeating L’Essor 9-1 last Monday at home, the Lady Gens travelled to Leamington last Tuesday (Nov. 19) and knocked off Cardinal Carter 9-1. Bouzide had four goals in that game with Lenson, Olivia Gyori, Amber Shaw, Gillian Sparling and Farmer scoring.

The next game for the Lady Gens is next Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the United Communities Credit Union Complex against the Essex Red Raiders.
