Lady Gens go 2-2 in University of Western Invitational basketball tournament

The General Amherst senior girls basketball team took part in the University of Western Invitational this past weekend.

bigbulldogyellow3This tournament brings in 32 teams, some of the best in the province. Amherst put in a good effort winning two and losing two, the four games they played were all against AAAA level schools.

In their first game they lost to London John Paul II, 50-40. In this game Amherst trailed by as many as 12 points early but battled back to within one point with six minutes to play but couldn’t get over the hump. Aleah Marton and Jaylin VandeBovenkamp led the way with 14 points each, Dani Leroux had six and Robin Kellam, Sydney Emerson and Kayla Daguerre all had two each. In their next game they defeated London Lucas 34-26. Marton had 14 points VandeBovenkamp had eight, Leroux had seven, Kellam had five and Madison Turner had two.

In their third game of the tournament they defeated Waterloo Bluevale 55-40. Marton had 16 points, Daguerre and Kellam had nine each, VandeBovenkamp had seven, Emerson had five, Leroux had four, Atong Yuot and Emma DeLuca had two each and Abbie Barron had one.

In their last game of the tournament they lost to Holy Trinity from Oakville 41-30. VandeBovenkamp had 16, Marton had eight, Daguerre had three, Emerson had two and Turner had one.
