Lady Gens fall short in weekend tourney

This past weekend the Amherst Sr. Girl’s basketball team took part in the University of Windsor invitational.

In their first game they took on a talented Edmund Campion team from Brampton. Amherst took a 23-17 halftime lead and went on to a 37-29 victory.  Katie Breault led all scorers with 16 points, Aleah Marton and Christine Belcher had six points each, Sarah Bondy had five points and Jaylin VandeBovenkamp had four. Breault and VandeBovenkamp had 12 rebounds each.

In their second game of the tournament Amherst took on a very good team from London, Mother Theresa. In a well played and exciting game Amherst came out on the short end of a 44-43 score. They had a chance to win but a last second shot just rimmed out and Mother Theresa was able to corral the rebound for the win. Breault had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Belcher had 11 points and 13 rebounds, Marton and Vandebovenkamp had five points each, Bondy had four , Karli Ficociello had two and Lindsay Kondracki had one.

In their last game of the tournament, Amherst defeated Holy Names 59-48. Breault had 16 points and 15 rebounds, VandeBovenkamp had 16 points, Kondracki had eight points and six rebounds,  Belcher had nine points, Bondy had six, Mackenzie Morencie and Alex Leroux had two each.
