The General Amherst Lady Gens girls hockey team will now face Harrow in the WECSSAA A/AA semi-final after advancing with a win over St. Joseph last Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Gens won 8-0 over the Lasers with Savannah Bouzide scoring four of her team’s goals. Emily Pontini, Renee Reid, Megan Farmer and Kayla Fiala also scored for General Amherst with Megan Wismer picking up the shutout in goal.

“We played against a slower team,” said assistant coach Dan Pettypiece. “We’ve been used to chasing teams from the AAAA and AAA level.”
Pettypiece said the Lady Gens felt they had to make plays quicker against St. Joseph than they actually did.

The Lasers only had ten players and Pettypiece said they were an inexperienced bunch that reminded him of the early days of the Lady Gens girls hockey program.

“It looked like Amherst in years past. It’s nice to be on the other side of the coin,” he said. “We didn’t want to embarrass the other team but we wanted to avoid bad habits. You’ve got to try and keep on top of things.”

It was nice to see other players score besides Bouzide, he added, with Bouzide being the team’s captain and offensive leader.

The Lady Gens will host Harrow Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. in WECSSAA A/AA semi-final action. They are trying to repeat as WECSSAA and SWOSSAA A/AA champions.
