The Canadian Tire “Jumpstart” program has received a $3,000 donation thanks to a fundraiser recently held at Royal Canadian Legion Br. 157.

The chicken and rib dinner fundraiser, which was organized by George and Cindy London earlier this month, resulted in the $3,000 being raised for the local charity. The Londons presented the cheque to local Jumpstart chapter chair Ron Renaud at the Legion last Thursday night.

Renaud said the program reaches out to children with special needs or to those who couldn’t otherwise afford recreation programs. He said there are still a lot of children who can’t participate in sports and the Jumpstart program is helping.

“We raise money to help needy families so that their children can enjoy recreation,” explained Renaud.

Renaud added that all money raised in Amherstburg would benefit children and families in Amherstburg.

George London said the Oct. 5 fundraiser went over well.

“We were sold out,” said London. “We had 156 people plus ten take-out orders.”

The Londons had also previously donated the winnings from that evening’s 50/50 draw. Erin Mickle was the recipient of $1,500 from the draw that was held the night of the fundraiser.
