Jr football team looking for community support

By Joel Charron

When General Amherst Junior Football coach Dave Scott busted out the teams seven-man blocking sled for the up coming season he noticed something was missing…its pads.

When a search throughout a town owner storage shed came up with nothing Scott knew it was time to invest in new pads.

The General Amherst Junior Football team stands with coaches on the padless blocking sled they are trying to raise $2,000 for.

Scott said the seven-man blocking sled is helpful in the development of the younger players and stated that he is hoping that the community and the school alumni will once again show its support.

According to the long time Amherst football coach the total cost for seven new pads is over $2,000.

Cash or cheque donations can be made at the main office at General Amherst High School or the River Town Times office.

Cheques should be made payable to “General Amherst High School” with memo line reading “football sled.”

Cheques can be mailed to the school, which is located at 130 Sandwich St. S, Amherstburg. The postal code is N9V 1Z8.

Scott mentioned that any additional funds would be used within the football program only.
