Intermediate South County Girls win Gold in St. Catharines

The Amherstburg Intermediate South County girls went undefeated this past weekend to win the Second Annual House League Tournament in St. Catharines.

The team went 3-0 in round robin play, winning their first game against the Amherst Knights from New York, 3-0. Goals were scored by Sydney Meloche, Brittany Stomp and Kim Carter. Next the girls easily defeated a shorthanded team from St. Catharines 6-0. The team finished out round robin play by winning their third game 4-1 against a second team from St. Catharines.

With three wins the team was seated second going into the semi-finals to play the Hamilton Kings. South County came out on top winning 2-0. Brittany Laporte scored the first goal, assisted by Maria Goggin with the second goal scored by Katelynne Lamothe, assisted by Sam Morand.

Entering into the championship game South County was then put up against a strong Oakville team who was also undefeated. Amherstburg scored the first goal of the game when Katelynne Lamothe knocked the puck in late into the second period, with the assist going to Sam Spearing.

Three minutes into the third period Oakville answered with a goal of their own. Soon South County was up 2-1 when Brittany Laporte scored a goal assisted by Kim Carter. However this lead did not last long when Oakville scored once again sending the game into overtime.

With one minute left on the clock Brittany Laporte tipped in the game winning goal when Brittany Stomp released a shot from the point. Tournament MVP went to goaltender Kellyanne Lamothe who had an outstanding weekend, only allowing three goals in five games.
