Handgun seized from Seymour St. residence



The Amherstburg Police Service is continuing to investigate a situation where a handgun was allegedly found in a local residence.

Police were called to a home in the 300 block of Seymour St. last Wednesday around 1 p.m. after a handgun was reportedly observed inside the residence. Police attended the area, surrounded the house, and called out the lone female inside, a 36-year-old Amherstburg resident.  She came out peacefully and was arrested, police say.

According to police, a search of the house resulted in a handgun being located and seized by officers. The investigation is continuing.

Distracted driving blitz   Amherstburg police soon will be conducting a traffic blitz targeting distracted driving. This will be a pre-emptive strike prior to the legislation being changed. The current penalty is $490, and three demerit points. The new laws will include a three-day suspension for a first offence, a seven-day suspension for the second offence, and a 30-day suspension for the third offence.


Cyclist hit, bike taken   A 16-year-old female cyclist was struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck last Wednesday around 3:05 p.m. The truck was being driven by a 49-year-old Windsor man. There were no injuries or charges.

Amherstburg police say that as the cyclist was waiting for a ride, someone stopped and took the bike, possibly believing it was scrap. The bike is a 2014 Norco Storm 6.2 mountain bike, 17″, white and purple, with Ser#AA301399970. Anyone with information on the bike’s whereabouts is asked to contact police.


Thefts   Police report that a bicycle was taken from the front yard of a residence in the 4300 block of Concession 4 North. It was reported to have occurred sometime overnight between Sept. 17-18.

  • Another bicycle was stolen, this one from a yard in 100 block of Venetian Ave.  The bike is described as a tall women’s bike, black in colour, with a wide, tan seat, masking tape on the cables and seven speeds.
  • Six empty beer kegs were stolen from the Beacon Ale House last Friday night/Saturday morning. They were recovered in Windsor. Amherstburg police state that the investigation is continuing, and there are no suspects at this time.
  • Amherstburg police say a grey pickup was observed at the cemetery on Texas Road at Walker Road Sunday around 9:55 a.m.  It was discovered some old cattle fence and gates had been taken.  The investigation is continuing.


RIDE   Amherstburg police conducted a RIDE program Friday night. No infractions were reported.


Crash   A single vehicle rollover accident resulted in a 50-year-old man from Lakeshore charged with careless driving. The accident occurred in the 7000 block of Howard Ave. last Thursday at approximately 12:20 p.m. Police say one person sustained minor injuries.


Public intoxication   A 30-year-old Amherstburg man was arrested and charged with public intoxication Saturday around 9:19 p.m. Police say the man was arrested near the intersection of Dalhousie St. and Pickering Dr.


Stats   Amherstburg police say there were 231 calls for service between Sept. 18-25 with 48 traffic-related charges also being laid during that period.
