General Amherst students are gearing up for this years high school production, Grease.

It has been four years since Amherst’s last big production, so it’s safe to say the excitement from the cast and school, is building.

The cast this year is smaller than that of most productions the school has put on.  A total of 25 students, ranging from Grade 9 to fifth year makeup Grease’s cast as well as the backstage crew.

Claudia Mancini, who is a supply and volunteer teacher as well as Stephen Scott have take on the rolls of co directors. Stephanie Melcher, is producing and Andrea Leskiw is in charge of vocal arrangements. Georgia Klym-Skeates and Amy Soucie are in charge of costume designs. Madeleine Monteleone a Grade 12 student, who will be playing Frenchy, commented on her role saying: “Not only am I excited because this is my dream role , but it’s also my first musical as an actress!”

Fifth year student James D’Aloisio, who will be playing Danny said that “I did not pick the role of Danny, it chose me. My friends said to me ‘James, you are going to be Danny. And I said ‘I already am’ I strongly believe that everyone in Amherstburg should come see Grease come alive in the way it’s meant to be seen. John Travolta did a solid first try, but I’m the last try.”

Tickets are being sold for $10 for adults and $7 for students. The production will take place May 1, 2 and 3, in the General Amherst Gymnasium. Anyone interested in buying tickets can call 519-736-2149.
