Response was overwhelming for Gibson Gallery’s “Student Pix” photography exhibit.

The walls of the gallery were brought to life when lined with photos from primary, junior, intermediate and senior divisions. Photography categories included black and white, colour and digitally enhanced. There was a total of 240 exhibits and 130 exhibitors. The exhibit runs through June 8.

A reception will be held June 8 from 2-4 p.m. and that will also be where the students judged to have the first, second and third place photos in each age category will be honoured as well as the student whose work was judged “Best in Show” in the photo category regardless of age group.

Best in Show winners include Mirela Hiric from Sandwich Secondary School for “Baka i Deda” (black and white), Kestrel McNeill from Belle River District High School for “Angry Bird” (colour) and Alison Low from Tecumseh Vista Academy for “Wax” (digitally enhanced).

Students from all around Essex County enrolled within the Greater Essex County District School Board from Grades 9-12 competed in the contest.

Bonnie Deslippe, office administrator with the Gibson Gallery, gave her thoughts on the contest this year saying “I always look forward to it. I am so amazed at how hard the students work and how profession some of the shots are. ”
