The Amherstburg community is coming together to help the victims of the tragic accident on I-75 earlier this month.

Lucio Salvati, owner of LA Hairstyles and member of Verdi Club board of directors said during hard times like this the community needs to come together and help each one another.

“We have to stick together,” said Salvati. “What happened was tragic. I though as a community, the Verdi Club should come together and help raise funds to off set some of the family’s cost.”

Salvati noted that he is working with Gary Charles, also a member of Verdi Club’s board of directors to get the fundraiser off the ground.

The Greenwood/Blake/Barrett/Hicks Fundraiser will take place on Saturday, March 2 at the Verdi Club. AM800 and CTV Windsor’s Arms Bumanlag will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Tickets are $25 for adults or $15 for children six-12. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner being served at 6:30 p.m.

Dinner will feature pasta, salad and rolls. A cash bar will be available.

Entertainment will be provided by One Man Out.

The fundraiser has been gaining a lot of attention in the media. Salvati said it’s because it’s a tragedy that hit “so close to home.”

“It’s gotten the attention because there are young kids involved,” he said. “A family went off to have a good time and tragedy hits. It touches everybody. With us being a small community and everyone knows each other it really hits home hard.”

Salvati mentioned the local business community has donated a number of door prizes and silent auction items.

“The business community has been very generous,” he said. “They always give and always give a lot.”

He also mentioned the proceeds from the Greenwood/Blake/Barrett/Hicks Fundraiser will be presented to Bumanlag when he hosts the “We take Care For Our Own” Fundraiser on Friday, March 22.

Tickets to the Greenwood/Blake/Barrett/Hicks Fundraiser can be purchased at LA Hairstyle (53 Richmond St.) or at The Verdi Club.

Cash donation will be accepted at the Verdi Club. To donate raffle prizes please contact Lucio Salvati at LA Hairstyles at 519-736-8855.
