“Friends of Flint” fundraising effort meets its goal

The Friends of Flint Water Week was a huge success, thanks to the generosity of our great community!

After 10 days of local residents contributing cases of water to our cause we were able to order 4,167 cases, which provided over 100,000 bottles of water! We have been in communication with Flint and they are thrilled with this level of support and will welcome our shipment in the coming weeks.

An event like this would not be possible without the help of many. We would like to thank our five participating stores – Canadian Tire, No Frills, Shoppers Drug Mart, Sobeys Amherstburg and Sobeys St. Clair Beach for their help in making this the great success that it was. The owners and cashiers at each of the stores did a terrific job taking water orders. We are so appreciative of the media coverage we received in the River Town Times, the Windsor Star, and the great posters that were prepared by Glenn Girard, owner of A Sign 4 Success. They all helped us spread the word in a very positive way. The posters looked great on the art easels supplied by General Amherst High School!

We would like to extend a very big thank-you to Steve Ondejko, owner of Onfreight logistics, who not only made the single largest contribution of water to help us reach our goal but who will also be generously taking all of the water over to Flint on our behalf. Lastly, we would like to thank the women from Strive Performance Enhancement Centre who kindly volunteered their time to meet and greet Amherstburg residents who donated to our cause.

Now 100,000 bottles of water will find their way to Flint Michigan and we couldn’t be happier!
