A barbecue and bake sale helped raise some cash for a local team taking part in the upcoming MS Walk in Windsor.

“Franks for Frankie” was held Saturday at the Village Shoppe with proceeds to benefit their team – the Mighty Soles – in this Saturday’s MS Walk in Windsor. The team and the event were named in honour of Frank D’Aloisio, who died in 2012 after battling MS since first being diagnosed in 2000.

Lynn Sinasac, co-owner of The Village Shoppe, said they wanted to have “Franks for Frankie” in memory of Frank D’Aloisio and to drum up support.

“The town has been super supportive,” she said. “We’re more than happy with the way the town has been supporting us.”

An example of the support that people in town have given was the amount of baked goods that were donated, said Sinasac.

“People that knew we were doing this baked and baked and baked,” she added.

Frank was the captain of the team until his death two years ago but his wife Anne Marie said Saturday’s event was something that would have been right up Frank’s alley.

“This is amazing but this is what my husband was all about,” said Anne Marie. “For us to give back to other people with MS is something he would have wanted.”

Many people at the event knew Frank and wanted to support him, she added.

“Everyone here is either a relative or a really good friend because that was what Frank was all about – family and friends.”
