An early morning fire last Tuesday resulted in the total loss of a cottage located on the property.

Amherstburg firefighters from station three battled the blaze for approximately three hours, said Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ouellette. Ouellette said the cottage, located at the back of the property near Lake Erie, wasn’t occupied at the time with the fire being called in by a resident of the nearby Lake Erie Country Club.

“It was a total loss,” said Ouellette. “It was a cottage that was fully involved by the time we got there.”

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries, he added. Because of the fact the cottage was fully involved, Ouellette said firefighters took a defensive attack in putting the fire out.

Ouellette added that it is unknown whether there were any contents inside the cottage at the time. That has delayed any estimates as to the dollar value of the loss.

“We haven’t discovered the origin,” Ouellette added. “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
