The fighters at Fighting Island Boxing Club will battle under the big blue sky on Sat. Sept. 15.

The event entitled “Fight Night at the Legion” will take place out in front of the Royal Canadian Legion. Br. 157. The event is also the kick off of Legion Week.

Fighting Island president Joe LeBlanc said the Legion has always been a “huge supporter” of his boxing club and his fighters and felt hosting a boxing show in front of their building is a fitting way to express his gratitude.

‘The last two year’s Noram Lechance went to the Nationals the Legion was the one that gave us money to get out of town,” said LeBlanc. “The Legion has always donated the club money so we thought lets pay it back.”

The fights are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Admission is free

The fight card will feature roughly 12 fights. Amongst the local fighters tentatively scheduled to compete are Brock Brian, Ted Laramie, Anthony Mulder, Stevie Wigle, Connor Roland, Anthony Laramie, Tyson Whalen, Jacob Bozin and Yvette Marentette.

The main event will feature provincial champion Noram “The Pitbull” Lechance.

“They are all local kids and they are all pumped to perform in front of their home town,” said LeBlanc. “It’s going to be very exciting.”

Lechance said he’s excited and has been training twice a day in preparation for his upcoming fight in front of his hometown.

“I feel really sharp,” said Lechance.

Lechance added fighting in front of his friend and family, makes him feel more at ease during a fight.

“I think I fight more relaxed at home, it’s more fun,” he said. “It gives me more of an adrenaline rush.”

A pasta dinner is planned for that evening as well with the cost being $6 per meal. All proceeds are slated to be donated back to the Fighting Island Boxing Club. The pasta dinner runs from 3-6 p.m.
