The efforts of the Cat Assistance Team (CAT) has been largely to cut down on the number of feral cats in town and that takes money to do.

That is why CAT held a fundraiser recently at Royal Canadian Legion Br. 157.

While a final fundraising total was not available at press time, the event was sold out with roughly 140 in attendance and additional people taking home a meal. It was the second year in a row the fundraiser has sold out.

“We’re raising money towards our mandate, which is to reduce the feral cat population in the town of Amherstburg,” explained CAT member Carla Leardi.

Thus far, CAT has spayed or neutered over 300 cats in Amherstburg in their ongoing efforts to reduce the town’s feral cat population. The group started in 2009.

“It’s a great turnout tonight,” said Tim Stocker, another member of CAT.

Stocker said public awareness of CAT and its mandate is increasing within the community.

“It’s coming around,” he said.
