A garage fire early Monday morning has led to an approximate damage estimate of $100,000, states the Amherstburg Fire Department.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ouellette said the call came in at roughly 3:30 a.m. Monday with firefighters from Station 2 being on scene for roughly three hours. The fire was in the 1900 block of Front Road North

“It was a large garage fire,” said Ouellette. “It was a total loss. It was fully involved when we got on scene. We went into defensive mode. It extended to the house but we quickly put that out.”

Ouellette noted the side of the house was heated and firefighters put that out and saved the home.

The damage estimate encompasses both the building and contents with a vehicle and snowmobile reported to have been in the garage at the time of the fire.

The cause and origin is still under investigation, added Ouellette. There were no injuries.
