A combine is a “total loss” after a fire at a Texas Road farm Oct. 10.

Deputy Fire Chief Jim Ouellette said the call came in shortly before 1:30 p.m. to attend the farm, located on the stretch of Texas Road between Howard Ave. and Concession 8 North. The farmer had just come in to go for lunch and noticed problems with the combine, Ouellette said.

“He came in from the field and he noticed it was overheating,” said Ouellette. “He stepped off and flames came up from underneath.”

An exact total on the loss was unknown, as was the cause.

“It was a total loss,” said Ouellette. “It was insured. Everything is a total loss in the combine.”

As the machine had soybeans inside of it, Ouellette said it made the fire “more stubborn” to extinguish, but added it took roughly ten minutes to get under control. Amherstburg firefighters were on scene for roughly one hour.

There were no injuries.
